optical isomers...
A molecule with 1 chiral centre will give rise to a pair of optical isomers. The pair are mirror images of each other.
Above: a pair of optical isomers.. the central black ball represents the chiral centre*
the 2 structures are mirror images of each other....
Despite having the same structural formula (same connectivity of atoms), they are non-superimposable i.e. matching black w black, white with white.. the blue and red don't coincide. These 2 molecules are different!
we call them a pair of optical isomers or also known as ENANTIOMERS
We say these molecules are optically active.
And how do optically active molecules (those with chiral centres) rotate the plane of plane polarised light? What is plane polarised light? see link below.

WR submission on 7 Aug 08. The PW representative will collect the WR and submit to the General Office by 2 pm.
submit your complete/best version of WR for vetting. You will benefit from it only if they submit your best version for useful feedback for improvement
Take note of the following :
Complete the cover page
Font size 12. (Times Roman or Arial )
Double line spacing
Pages must be paginated
Correct method of writing in-text citation and bibliography (refer to resource materials)
Incomplete WRs will be rejected!

$3.20, hand in maths tutorial 7 and 8
Hello all.
The maths topic-by-topic other school exam questions cost $3.20. If you want it binded, you'll have to approach the bookshop aunty, and it cost an extra $1.50. I will be placing the orders for everyone, and if you have any violent objections to buying the question papers, please let me know! Please pass to me the $3.20 on Monday. Thank you!
Also, please remember to hand in maths tutorial 7 and 8, that is, summation and method of difference, on Monday! :D
